How cool is such a beautiful big sombrero for carnival or another theme party. Well, you hear a lot of people shouting at you on the street as soon as you wear such a hat. We as Dutch people actually only use the sombrero for fancy dress parties or other festive or fancy dress purposes. But in the South American countries in particular you see the sombrero as a clothing item in the wardrobe. Think of countries like Mexico where you can't imagine life without it. Especially in this country the sombrero is worn in bright or vivid colors. If you compare this with other countries like Guatemala or Peru, I often see somewhat calmer and more neutral colors. But here this hat is also worn a lot and there is no difference between them. Wearing a large Sombrero provides a kind of status / authority. The bigger the sombrero, the more the person has to do.
Many people know that Mexicans wear the sombrero and often a sombrero is sold/worn with a poncho. But there are many more costumes where you can wear the sombrero. Think for example of the Mariachi because they also wear the sombrero at all times. You also have the big party in Mexico Day of the death, also called the day of the dead. During this party, the city of Mexico City is transformed into a big festival and hundreds of thousands of people walk the streets in costume to honor the dead. You have many sombreros that complete the Day of the death costume so that you can convey the theme well to the crowd. You will be amazed by the attention you attract.
