Diadem Elf

The elf diadem is a gold-coloured headpiece with a braided band, an oval green stone in the centre and two long chains that frame the face. It evokes the elves from fantasy stories: graceful forest creatures with long, wavy hair and a delicate ornament worn low across the forehead. Women wear it at Elfia and Castlefest, and it also makes an elf or lady-in-waiting costume instantly recognisable at Carnival.

What is the elf diadem made of?

• The ornament is made from 100% iron.
• The gold-coloured headband consists of a thick braid of thin wires, with two twisted arches above it that rest on your hair.
• In the centre is an oval green stone in an openwork, flower-shaped setting, with a small gold-coloured bead hanging below it on your forehead.
• On each side hangs a long chain that ends in a faceted gold-coloured bead, so that it falls down beside your cheeks.

The elf ornament in fantasy and medieval style

In fairy tales and fantasy stories, elves are often depicted as slender, stately figures with a narrow metal band around their heads. Start with a long, flowing dress with loose sleeves, for example in dark red and black or in a deep shade of green that echoes the stone. A long blonde or reddish wig with loose waves gives the chains space to hang down through the hair. Pointed elf ears complete the character, and with a cape over the shoulders you also have a warm layer for an evening outdoors at a festival site.
