Balloons red yellow and green

Why are red, yellow and green balloons hung up during carnival?

Red, yellow and green are the traditional colours of carnival in Limburg. You can see them there on flags, sashes and hall decorations. Anyone who hangs up these three colours immediately shows which celebration is being observed. Filled with air, you can tie them together in bunches of three, or string them alternately on a ribbon to create a garland along the ceiling or bar. With one hundred balloons, you can make several bunches and an additional garland.
