Origin of orange clothing

But where does this orange craze actually come from? Of course, the color does not appear in our national flag. Just like they have “le bleu” in France, our national color is one from outside our red-white-blue Dutch flag . To go back to the origin of the tradition of dressing ourselves in orange clothing on special occasions, we have to go back to the 16th century. Thanks to William of Orange, who owed his name to a family heirloom, orange became the color for the Netherlands. As a child, William of Orange inherited the French principality of 'Orange' from his cousin René of Chalon: hence the literal name William of Orange. Since his leadership, the orange color has never left the Dutch heart.
